we like it hot + local!

I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. As always, my opinions and sentiments are my own and I express them freely, regardless of sponsorship because I partner with brands I love.

My husband is a self-proclaimed foodie — I think he’s truly more of a twist on normal recipe lover. We recently went to Brand Builders inside of Keg and Case Market in St. Paul and got the chance to meet several small CPG business owners.

hot sauces from Lost Capital Foods

We were blown away by the products that we tried from a vendor called Lost Capital Foods. Lost Capital’s commitment to sustainable, locally-made products through a process involving fermentation and blending is impressive and reflected in the way their products taste.

After trying some of the products at the demo, I knew that Bob and I would easily incorporate Lost Capital into our recipes from breakfast to lunch to dinner to snacks. I just needed to get some! Lost Capital is available at a LONG list of retail outlets (comprehensively available here) which include:

  • Brand Builders at Keg and Case (St. Paul, MN)
  • Lunds & Byerlys has the mustard (all locations)
  • Jerry’s Foods has hot sauce and mustard (all locations)
  • County Market (Hudson, WI)
  • Mackenthuns Fine Foods & Deli (Waconia, Lonsdale, and Montgomery, MN)
  • Mike’s Butcher Shop
  • Valley Natural Foods (Burnsville, MN)
  • Lakewinds Co-op
  • Minny Row Market (Hopkins, MN)
  • Hy-Vee (Robbinsdale, New Hope, Plymouth, Maple Grove, Maplewood, Savage, and Spring Lake Park)

Here are some of the meals we’ve incorporated the Lost Capital products into that we are loving!

Breakfast Pizza

Last weekend, we made one of my favorite breakfast meals — breakfast pizza! I especially love spice with any meal that contains potatoes and/or eggs.

Breakfast pizza with hot sauce

I used both the Overdraft (Chile verde) and the Another Bad Investment (Chile manzano) hot sauces on the breakfast pizza and it was incredible! Packed the punch I needed while tasting so fresh. Here’s the recipe we based our dish on, following it loosely.

Hot Ham and Cheese (with Hot Honey!)

As the weather gets cooler and we need simpler but exciting meals for lunches at home, Bob decided that hot ham and cheese with hot honey was going to hit the spot. We made a hot ham and cheese sandwich, as one would, but we also added the Bear Market hot honey from Lost Capital into the sandwich for a sweet and spicy enhancement. I don’t know if I can quit these sandwiches (and who would want to when they taste this good?!)

The other thing I can’t wait to use Bear Market on is fried chicken. Love hot honey on fried chicken and this is going to be awesome. I can’t wait to get another jar of Bear Market for my husband’s stocking this year, too!

Other ideas on my list

  • I’m looking forward to using Gold Digger (mango habanero ginger hot sauce) on chicken wings or chicken tacos
  • Pyramid scheme or death tax would also be amazing on chicken wings – likely the first item I’ll try them on
  • Use the Economics (spicy coarse ale mustard) as a rub on baby back ribs before throwing them on the smoker
  • Lost Capital Foods has some other great recipe ideas on their website

Go grab some Lost Capital Foods products – a great way to support a small, locally owned business during the holidays (and always!) They have so many great uses and flavors for every taste palette (mild to super spicy).
