home office edit

I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. As always, my opinions and sentiments are my own and I express them freely, regardless of sponsorship because I partner with brands I love.

I closed the chapter with my small business last weekend and was so ready for a fresh start. I decided to do a home office edit right away this week to allow myself to be more productive. Prior to our basement flood, my poor husband had set his desk up on a mini card table in the corner of our downstairs family room. I made the promise that as soon as I got all of the clothes out of our downstairs bedroom, it would become an office and I had to make good on that.

The Design and Furniture

I’d been dreaming of the day where we would turn the room I’m writing this from into a home office for both of us and along with that comes Pinterest inspiration and boards. I had pinned a gorgeous desk that I knew would land in my office someday, so I started there. I told Bob that he could have whatever he wanted for a desk because I wanted him to be as productive as possible and give him the space that he needed. After talking about the physical dimensions and space of the room, he decided to go with the same desk, so that they could match and make the space look larger.

We opted to go with this desk in antique white and is the image I had also pinned on Pinterest. We were tempted to get gray (most of our furniture is gray or brown because we’re hard on it – especially with two dogs) so it would match, but loved the antique white because it gives off farmhouse vibes, makes the room look larger, and also won’t show any scratches or nicks as much as a more solid color would. Shout out to the retailer we got them from – they were here in THREE DAYS and shipped for free! I have to tell you – it took an afternoon to put both desks together, but the instructions were pretty easy to follow and Bob appreciated that all of the hardware was separated in bags by numbered step (and attached in order), so it could’ve totally taken longer.

We got two of them (one for each of us) and put them in a U shape along three of the four walls in the office. I love having an L-shaped desk that’s a bit more modern because it allows me a space to type but more space to spread out if I’m doing a more manual project, like updating my planner. My husband loves his desk because he likes large monitors to do his work from home or continued learning modules with ease.

I already have a desk chair that I love – it’s so comfortable and has lasted three years. It comes in a variety of fabrics, colors, and patterns. I have this chair in charcoal microfiber and can attest to many late nights of work, sitting in it without fatigue. I’ve also ruined the ball joints that the chair sits on to roll and the company sent me new ones, no questions asked, at no cost. That’s great customer service!

I got Bob a different chair because he wanted something that was a little bit more typical office chair-ish. He got this chair, which shipped SO fast, because it was from the same retailer we got the desks from. We ended up receiving it in a color we did not order, but they have a great online form that asks you what was wrong and to submit a photo and then they do whatever you need them to (refund, ship the right one, keep it, etc.) right away. I’m a customer of theirs for life because they were so easy to work with!

Decor

This was the fun part (for me, not so much for Bob). I let him do whatever he wanted on his side of the office – it is his workspace, after all. I went pretty all-in on my side of the office, as you can tell.

desk / chair / planner / gold basket / fake plant and pot / glitter photo frames / red bag print / pen holder, lamp, lower three fashion prints (shoe, perfume, woman – all Oliver Gal) are all from HomeGoods and are not linkable / pitcher holding flowers

All in all, I know that I will continue to add to my office space but for right now, I am really happy that I’ve finally been able to hang my diploma frame for the first time (after getting it four years ago when I finished my MBA…). I’m also really happy to have my own workspace that I actually want to be in!

Do you have a workspace that you love? What did you do to complete it the way you wanted it to be?
